HANZISOUL NAME GUIDE
Understanding Chinese name Seal design
A Chinese name Seal turns approved characters into a compact piece of digital artwork. It is not simply a square font treatment. The inscription, positive or negative carving style, reading order, spacing, and intended output all affect the result.
Baiwen and zhuwen
Baiwen presents the characters as light forms against a red field, echoing an intaglio impression. Zhuwen presents red character forms on a lighter field, echoing a relief impression. The same inscription can feel markedly different in the two styles, which is why a matched pair is useful for a digital collection.
Use an exact inscription
A common four-character personal format combines a three-character name with 印, meaning Seal: 林知远印, for example. The approved characters and order must stay fixed. Seal-script styling can transform shapes dramatically, so the design needs a traceable link to the modern-character inscription rather than visual guesswork.
Digital artwork is not a carving file
A screen-ready Seal can be saved, shared, and printed for ordinary creative use, but physical carving introduces mirror direction, minimum stroke width, material limits, edge cleanup, and size-specific decisions. Give a seal carver the approved inscription and request a separate production proof. Do not send a preview image as if it were automatically ready for manufacture.
